I have a confession to make: this morning I had a frozen french bread pizza for breakfast because I was totally out of ideas.
Mornings are hard. And no matter how many times we’ve heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, it’s easy to choose a few extra minutes of sleep over a morning meal. Particularly if you, like many, find yourself eating the same thing every day. A breakfast rut, if you will. You might find yourself making some poor, pizza-y decisions.
But what if breakfast could be inspired and exciting? What if you had some new ideas that took less than 5 minutes to prepare? That’s exactly what I’ve tried to give you here. And they’re all centered around one of the simplest breakfast staples: toast! Dressed up toast is all the rage right now, and with these suggestions you can be just like all the cool kids instagramming their avocado toast at brunch.
All of these quick and easy ideas require almost zero prep (save for toasting the toast, but that’s a given). A spread here, a sprinkle there, and voila! A fun new breakfast item that you’ll actually look forward to. I’ve come up with nine different varieties sorted into three different breads and three different “base toppings.” But from there it’s incredibly easy to customize. Use these micro-recipes as a jumping off point, then experiment with your own flavor combinations. Start the morning off with an inventive breakfast and your body will thank you the rest of the day.
